RETURNING OMAMORI AND SHRINE ITEMS FOR PURIFICATION

OTAKIAGE (RITUAL PURIFICATION)

We accept all returns of used shrine items for Otakiage (ritual purification). Otakiage
ceremony will be conducted mid-January.

To send your items, please note the following shipping instructions/addresses:

NOTE: As of March 2025, we prefer not to receive parcels via UPS or FedEx. Due to the current Tariff confusion/environment, the courier services require that the packages be processed for customs/duty. Although there may not be a customs fee, the couriers charge approximately $35 to us as the recipient as a processing fee.

Customs Information: If you are shipping internationally, you will need to fill out a
customs declaration. Please describe your items as “used religious items being returned
for destruction” and use a low value for your items, such as $1 or $5 (so the shrine does not pay duty to
receive your shipment)

Donation: A donation for the service is appreciated, but not required. You can make an
online donation (www.matsuri.ca/donate) or send a check with your shipment.
