Senza Sai

Tsubaki Grand Shrine

At Knapp Island

On March 23 we will conduct the sacred ceremony of Senza Sai to install the kamisama in Tsubaki Grand Shrine which is not in place at Knapp Island.

We are very honoured to welcome the most senior priests from Tsubaki Grand Shrine (Japan) to perform this ceremony, led by Guji Yukiyasu Yamamoto (97th High Priest).

A bit of history on this shrine:

In 1987, Sendai Guji (High Priest) Yukitaka Yamamoto opened Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America in Stockton, California. His vision to introduce Shinto to North America has benefited thousands of people who have experienced the bright, positive spirituality of Shinto.

This shrine structure, built in Japan, served as the seat of the Kamisama  for Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America (Stockton) from 1987 to 2001.

It is now our privilege to have moved this sacred jinja, Tsubaki Grand Shrine North America, to Knapp Island. The shrine is installed on the water side of the Centre and has been prepared to receive the goshintai, the sacred objects which hold the spiritual essence of the Kamisama.
