Kinomori Jinja Matsuri This Sunday!
We’ve had a busy summer here, including Forest Bathing, pottery in the forest, teachings on Shinto and the great purification ceremony of mid-year, Nagoshi no O Harahi. We’ve welcomed many new visitors and are planning for a busy Fall as well!
This coming Sunday (September 15) we will celebrate the annual matsuri for Kinomori Jinja. Please come join us in honouring the kami as we open the shrine doors and present formal offerings of prayer, food, and tamagushi to the kami of the forest.
“Kinomori Jinja” translates literally as “Prayer Forest Shrine.” The main kami enshrined here are Chinju no Mori no Kami Gami—the kamisama of the Forest. Also enshrined are Sarutahiko no O Kami and Ame no Uzume no Mikoto.
Those of you who have visited Knapp Island have experienced the profound sacred energy of the forest here.
And, it is here at Kinomori Jinja that we gather to pay our respect and express gratitude to the kamisama of the Forest for the deep tranquility and renewal received.
Please join us for the ritual and celebration!
