Returning Omamori and Shrine Items for Purification

Replacing Ofuda and Omamori annually ensures that the protective powers are renewed, since these items may absorb negative energies in their protective role. Also, the cycle of returning and renewing demonstrates respect and gratitude to the kamisama for the protection and blessings received over the previous year.

We accept all returns of used shrine items for Otakiage (ritual purification) including those from other Shinto shrines across the world. The Otakiage ceremony will be conducted January 10, 2026, and you are welcome to come and attend the ceremony if you are nearby.
